This course seeks to keep M1 and M2 MD/PhD students grounded in research while exploring connections between clinical practice and foundational research. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to design and execute a translational research project. Students identify a clinically relevant topic and describe the problem with the help of clinical research and review articles. They also perform in-depth literature review to find the most relevant basic/translational science that informs the current clinical understanding. A simple example would be about a new chemotherapeutic. Finally, students present the clinical data and then dig into mechanism.
