Dear Prospective Graduate Student:
Since 1996, the IMSD program at Rutgers University (previously named the Rutgers University Pipeline Program) has supported the training of more than 100 PhD trainees. Our graduates are pursuing careers that include: research and/or teaching in academic institutions; research and management in biotech, pharmaceutical and other research-based industries; science writing and consulting; research, administration and science policy in government agencies; medicine.
The Rutgers IMSD program:
- Collaborates with our partner graduate programs in their recruitment and admissions of talented PhD students of diverse backgrounds;
- Offers an innovative continuing course and evolving set of activities that aim to improve science communication skills, increase scholarly productivity, and engage trainees in professional development activities;
- Complements the mentoring offered by research mentors and graduate programs with personalized mentoring, advising and programs on academic, personal and professional development, and social issues;
- Fosters a supportive and ethnically diverse graduate student community across Rutgers through our social activities and scientific/personal development programs.
The IMSD program is one element of Rutgers University’s commitment to increase opportunities and the success of PhD students from diverse groups, including from groups historically underrepresented in the biological/biomedical sciences.
