ADMISSION CRITERIA

Admission to the MMG MS program is highly competitive and targeted to US citizens and permanent residents (green card holders). A bachelor's degree or its equivalent is required for admission. The most appropriate undergraduate preparation is a concentration in biology (molecular, cellular, developmental, biochemistry, or microbiology), informatics, or chemistry (organic, analytical, or physical). Familiarity with research/research experience is also important.

Superior ability must be demonstrated by grade-point average (minimum G.P.A. of 3.0) and letters of recommendation.

GRE scores are strongly encouraged; however, applicants may be admitted without submitting GRE scores.

TOEFL/IELTS scores are required of students from countries in which English is not the native language.  Duolingo scores are not accepted.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications must be submitted in the online Application Portal and completed by April 1st.

For further application process information, contact the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions.

Applications received before April 1 receive first consideration.

FINANCIAL AID

No financial aid is offered to MS students; however, limited TA positions are sometimes available to support Masters training.

MASTER'S TO PH.D. PATHWAY

Students can apply to a Masters program and then transfer to the PhD program. This transfer requires three things to happen simultaneously:

  •  Success in the first-year curriculum
  • Success on the written Qualifying Exam
  • Continued support of the MS to PhD thesis advisor
